KAIQUAN Integrated Pump Gates: Setting Industry Benchmarks

2026-10-26 14:33:27

KAIQUAN is helping advance the standardization of integrated pump gates in China by translating practical engineering experience into product requirements and design guidance. With 102 projects completed nationwide and more than 300 units delivered, the company has contributed to a framework that connects product manufacturing, engineering design, installation and operation.

As a joint lead drafting organization for China’s first dedicated integrated pump gate product standard, KAIQUAN has played an important role in establishing a common technical reference for this developing product category.

From Early Development to Practical Application

Integrated pump gates began gaining traction in parts of Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and Europe around 2003. By combining pumping and gate functions within one structure, the technology offered a more compact approach to water management.

Drawing on its experience in submersible motor technology, KAIQUAN applied for one of China’s earliest utility model patents for an integrated gate pump in 2014. In 2019, the company delivered its first integrated pump gate project in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, marking the transition from technology development to practical application.

Subsequent projects provided the engineering experience needed to support broader adoption and standardization.

Establishing a Common Product Standard

In 2024, the China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization (CECS) published T/CECS 10403-2024, Integrated Pump Gate, China’s first product standard dedicated to this equipment category.

The standard was jointly led by Shanghai Kaiquan Pump (Group) Co., Ltd. and the China Institute of Building Standard Design & Research, under the technical administration of the CECS branch responsible for product applications in building and municipal engineering.

Included in the association’s standards development plan in 2020, the standard establishes systematic provisions for terminology, classification, specifications, technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules.

It classifies integrated pump gates by gate operating mechanism, including vertical lift, hydraulic jacking, hydraulic upward tilting and hydraulic sideways tilting configurations. It also distinguishes between single-gate arrangements incorporating one, two or multiple pumps.

These provisions establish a shared basis for product specification, testing and assessment, helping improve consistency across manufacturers and projects. During the technical review, the expert panel assessed the standard as technically sound, practical to implement and compatible with existing standards, with technical content reaching an international level.

Connecting Product Requirements with Engineering Design

KAIQUAN’s contribution also extends to engineering selection and installation guidance.

In September 2022, 22CS07-1, Selection and Installation of Integrated Pump Gates (I), was formally issued as a national building standard design reference atlas. It was jointly compiled by KAIQUAN, the North China Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute and the China Institute of Building Standard Design & Research.

Selection and Installation of Integrated Pump Gates (I), reference atlas 22CS07-1

Prepared using KAIQUAN integrated pump gate products as its technical basis, the atlas covers applications with individual pump flow rates of 0.27–4.14 m³/s and heads of 2.5–5.0 m.

Its contents include equipment composition, selection tables, overall dimensions, process flows, gate chamber layouts, desalting facilities, assembly details, embedded component details and gate operating equipment installation.

The atlas gives designers a consistent reference for equipment selection and engineering drawings, while providing contractors with practical installation guidance. It helps reduce the need to develop details separately for each project through repeated consultation with individual manufacturers.

Together, the product standard and reference atlas connect manufacturing requirements with engineering implementation, supporting more consistent product quality, design and installation.

Standards Supported by Engineering Experience

KAIQUAN’s standardization work draws on its long-standing investment in pump research and development, supported by platforms including a nationally recognized enterprise technology center and a postdoctoral research workstation.

As of 2025, the company had led or participated in the development and revision of 82 national, industry, local and association standards, and held more than 1,000 patents. It was also included in the industry standards category of the 2025 Shanghai Hard Technology Enterprises Top 50 ranking.

KAIQUAN’s integrated pump gates serve applications including urban river management, flood control and drainage, ecological water replenishment and existing sluice gate upgrades. Experience across these operating environments has informed product improvements and standards development, providing a practical reference for more consistent practices across the industry.

Recognition in National and Provincial Technology Promotion Catalogs

In December 2025, KAIQUAN’s independently developed Smart Integrated Pump Gate Technology passed a review by China’s Ministry of Water Resources and was included in its 2025 Catalogue of Advanced and Practical Water Conservancy Technologies Recommended for Key Promotion, under reference TZ2025076.

In May 2026, the technology was also included in Hebei Province’s Catalogue of Advanced and Practical Water Conservancy Technologies Recommended for Key Promotion, under reference 2025076616.

These listings recognize the technology’s advancement and practical value, supporting its wider application in water infrastructure.

An Integrated Approach to Water Management

KAIQUAN’s integrated pump gate combines pumping, gate control, intelligent monitoring and remote operation and maintenance within a coordinated system. This configuration offers four principal benefits:

  • Smaller footprint: Integrating pumping and gate functions reduces the need for a separate pump house.

  • Shorter construction period: A simplified system arrangement supports easier installation and commissioning.

  • Easier operation and maintenance: Automatic switching between operating modes reduces manual intervention, while the integrated design helps simplify maintenance.

  • Intelligent operation: Automatic water level detection, intelligent controls and remote access support unattended operation.

Through product development, engineering delivery and standards participation, KAIQUAN continues to support the wider adoption of integrated pump gates, providing a common technical basis for more compact, intelligent water management infrastructure.
